Suffering Humanity

Jesus identifies Himself with all suffering humanity. His important teaching is that the spiritual life consists largely of our ability to recognize Him and serve Him in those who hunger and thirst, the stranger and the naked, the sick and the imprisoned. Our eternal happiness hinges on our moral and spiritual capacity to recognize Him and servfe Him where he is in this world, in the time frame in which we are on this earth.

Bishop Robert J. Baker, Diocese of Charleston
